The Bordighera Symphony Orchestra, in cooperation with Iberclassica Artists, announces the second edition of the:

“ITALIAN CONDUCTING COMPETITION” dedicated to Alceo Galliera.

The competition is open to all musicians of any nationality without age limits.

The competition will take place in Bordighera on September 2023 from the 6th to the 10th.

RULES

The competition is structurated in two main phases:

FIRST PHASE

The qualification phase begins on January 2023 from the 1th and ends on May 2023 the 31th and consists of the video and CV examination totally free of charge. The candidates are required to send a video to show their skills. Any kind of ensemble is accepted, with the minimum number of two performing artists in case of arrangements (for example a reduction of a piece or score for two pianos).

SECOND PHASE

The eliminatory round will take place on September 2023 from the 6th to the 8th in Bordighera (Italy).

The semifinal round will take place on September 2023 the 9th in Bordighera (Italy)

The final will consist of a public concert to be held at the “Palazzo del Parco” Theater on September the 10th in Bordighera (Italy).

1. Eligibility:

The competition is open to all conductors, of all nationalities and without age limits.

2. First phase:

Applications can be sent from January 2023 the 1th to May the 31th; candidates must send the link to one video that will be qualified by the jury.

VIDEO DETAILS:

The candidates are required to send a video to show the candidate’s skills. Any kind of ensemble is accepted, with the minimum number of two performing artists in case of arrangements (for example a reductions for two pianos)

CANDIDATES ADMITTED TO THE SECOND PHASE:

The admitted candidates will be informed by e-mail within June the 30th; the names of the admitted candidates will also be published on the website;

The competition is structured as follows:

Eliminatory round: four handed piano on September from 6th to 8th.

Semifinal: Symphony Orchestra on September the 9th.

Final: Symphony Orchestra on September the10th.

3. Repertoire:

Eliminatory round: piano 4 hands.

L. Van Beethoven: Symphony n°1, First movement.

Each competitor will have a maximum time of 10 minutes for the test.

Semifinal: Symphony Orchestra.

F. J. Haydn: Symphony N°45 “Farewell”, first and second movement.

Each competitor will have a maximum time of 20 minutes for the test.

Final: Symphony Orchestra

F. Schubert: Symphony n°3, first and second movement

L. Van Beethoven: Symphony n°8, first and second movement

S. Prokofiev: Classical Symphony, first and second movement

Each competitor will have 1 hour to rehearse the piece in the morning of the day concert.
Public in the concert is part of the competition, and each competitor will conduct the assigned piece.
The winner will be announced after the final concert, to the presence of the public.
The pieces will be drawn the evening before the day of the final.

4. Prizes:

First classified:

– 1 concert in the 2023/2024 season of the Varna Opera Theater (Bulgary)

– 1 concert in the 2023/2024 season of the Bordighera Symphony Orchestra (Italy)

– 1 concert in the 2023/2024 season of the Madrid Atlantida Orchestra (Spain)

– 1 concert in the 2023/2024 season of the Parma Opera Art (Italy)

– Money prize: €2000.00

Official diploma and plaque of the Municipality of Bordighera

Second classified:

– 1 concert in the 2023/2024 opera and concert season of the “Reggia di Colorno” (Italy)

-Money prize: €1000.00

– Official diploma.

Third classified:

-Money prize: €500,00

– Official diploma.

SPECIAL PRICES:

1) Tactus Label could choose a finalist candidate as a conductor for a new cd release.

2) A concert in Lucca to be assigned to a finalist at the discretion of the president of the Jury.

All semifinalists will receive an official semifinalist certificate.

The final round of the competition will be open to the public and managers of Artist Agencies. The Artistic Director of Tactus label will be present.

5. Jury
The International jury will be composed by the following members:
M° Gianpaolo Mazzoli (Italy), Conductor, Composer and General Director of the Conservatorio “Luigi Boccherini” of Lucca

M° Massimo Dal Prà (Italy), Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the “Bordighera Symphony Orchestra”

M° Manuel Tevar (Spain), Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Madrid “Atlantida Orchestra”

M° Eddi Lovaglio (Italia), Manager and President of the “Parma Opera Art”

M° Fabio Merlini (Italia), Concert Manager of the “I Solisti Veneti” Orchestra, Principal Conductor of the “I Solisti Laudensi” and Art Director of “Iberclassica Artist”

NB all the members of the jury will be present from the first day until the end of the competition. In case of illness or force majeure the organization will replace the missing member with another internationally acknowledged Maestro;

6. Registration
To get registered you must send the application form and the required documents by Midnight (12:00 p.m.) GMT on May 2023 the 31th

7. Fees
The application to the qualification phase is completely free of charge. Admitted candidates to the second phase in Bordighera will be required to pay the participation fee that consists in €350,00 not refundable. Details about the payment will be sent to all the selected candidates.

8. Transfer and accommodation
Transfers and accommodation are up to the participants;

9. Media rights
The candidates will by submitting their application hand over all rights of the TV and radio recordings to the Promoter, this includes all pictures taken on and off stage;
The candidates will also by submitting their application give their permission and approval to the Promoter to use the candidates’ names and pictures in press releases;

10. Final rules
The participation to the competition implies the full acceptance of the present rules. The organization reserves the right to change the rules of the competition in case of force majeure, in that case the organization will give prompt notification of any modification that may occur. For any legal action the English text of the announcement must be considered. The forum in charge is Imperia (Italy).
